ΠΡΩΤΟΣ ΚΟΙΝΟΣ ΓΕΝΙΚΟΣ ΔΙΕΥΘΥΝΤΗΣ ΤΗΣ CEN-CENELEC

Η Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή Τυποποίησης (CEN) και η Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή Ηλεκτροτεχνικής Τυποποίησης (CENELEC), ανήγγειλαν με το Δελτίο Τύπου που ακολουθεί, την απόφαση των Διοικητικών τους Συμβουλίων, αναφορικά με τον ορισμό της κας Elena Santiago Cid, στη θέση  του πρώτου κοινού Γενικού Διευθυντή τους.

Η ενέργεια αυτή, σηματοδοτεί την ουσιαστική αμοιβαία προσέγγιση που επιχειρούν οι προαναφερθέντες Οργανισμοί, ώστε στο άμεσο μέλλον η Ευρωπαϊκή Τυποποίηση, να είναι πιο αποτελεσματική και να συμβάλλει κατά τρόπο καθοριστικό στη βελτίωση της ανταγωνιστικότητας της Ευρώπης.

New Common CEN-CENELEC Director General Announced

CEN (the European Committee for Standardization) and CENELEC (the European Electrotechnical Committee for Standardization) are pleased to announce that their respective Administrative Boards have appointed Mrs Elena Santiago Cid as common Director General of CEN and CENELEC.

Brussels (30 October 2009) - CEN (the European Committee for Standardization) and CENELEC (the European Electrotechnical Committee for Standardization) are pleased to announce that their respective Administrative Boards have appointed Mrs Elena Santiago Cid as common Director General of CEN and CENELEC. Mrs Santiago’s appointment is effective 1 January 2010.

Mrs Santiago brings considerable experience to the position, having been the Director General of CENELEC since 1 September 2003, where her responsibilities include the direction and management of the CENELEC Central Secretariat, providing executive support to the activities of the CENELEC General Assembly, Administrative Board (CA) and its advisory committees. In her current role, she manages the institutional relations with the European Commission and EFTA, and is responsible for the relations with CENELEC’s European sister organisations, CEN and ETSI, being a member of the Joint Presidents Group (JPG), as well as relations with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC ), being a member of the Management Coordination Group (MCG).

Prior to her appointment at CENELEC, Mrs Santiago was Director External Relations at AENOR, the Spanish member of ISO, IEC, CEN and CENELEC and was seconded to the European Commission as Spanish national expert in DG Enterprise and Industry.
Said Mrs Santiago of her appointment, “I am delighted to accept this challenge and am grateful for the confidence and trust placed in me by the members and Administrative Boards of both CEN and CENELEC. I am convinced that with the support from the members of both bodies, and the guidance given to me by the Presidents of CEN and CENELEC, both organisations will move closer to making the European Standardization System a world leader.”

The appointment of a joint common Director General for both CEN and CENELEC consolidates the close collaboration of the two bodies and ensures the continued contribution both organisations make towards shaping the future and increasing the efficiency of the European Standardization System. The appointment enables a united response to the challenge of supporting the long-term competitiveness of Europe in the global economy.

Mrs Santiago received a degree in Electronic Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, which included an Erasmus project at the University of Augsburg, Germany.
